Description

This bearing kit is for use on bicycles that use the BB90 standard – typically these are Trek.

  • 6805 (61805) bearings at the top end of the size range, these do not come boxed and are individually measured for size. The bearings will either be SKF, NTN, FAG, NSK or KOYO.
  • 2 x machined Delrin “top hats”, this interfaces the 25mm of the bearing ID to the 24mm crank axle diameter of Shimano crankset
  • Installation of this kit must be in conjunction with Activator and retaining compound
  • Please see fitting instructions here
The development of this was for a user who wanted to rid his bike of creak. You can view the analysis and development in the youtube video below
PLEASE NOTE:
  • This kit cannot guarantee to rid your bike of creak/clicking. There is a limit on the amount of slack the system will tolerate and if your frame is beyond this limit, then it will not work! I can give you an indication if measurements are provided.
  • The success rate is 94% when the user has NOT measured their bottom bracket hole size.

This really does work. My Madone has gone from a creaking nightmare to silent bliss.

  2. Aldo Santini

I will be the first to admit that I was skeptical about this solution but having tried everything else and not wanting to go for the absurdly oversized bearings I thought I would give this a punt. Fortunately, it worked. I am now happily riding around with no creak. It is expensive and Trek should have fixed it from the get go.

  3. Baz Symonds

I was encouraged by the other reviews on here and Hambini’s excellent youtube channel and thought I would give this a go. It was amazing that such a small difference in size was the difference between having a bike that creaked so much it was destined for the rubbish tip to having creak free bliss. Yes, it is expensive but it’s a lot cheaper than a scrapped bike frame. The bearings I received were SKF. I used Loctite activator and retaining compound as recommended by Hambini. I could not be happier

  4. Mbop

8… yes 8 trips to the LBS and the Trek main dealer could not fix the problem. They even tried oversized bearings and the drag was horrendous. I got in touch with Hambini after one of my work mates recommended him. Customer service and instructions were spot on. I didn’t rush it and did the install myself. I could not believe it where a 130km ride was completely creak free. The bike has not creaked since. Can’t thank Hambini enough. A thorough gent, straight talking no BS and more importantly will explain to you the limitations. Why can’t they all be like this.

  5. Ognen

Having the bad feeling of getting such creaking problems in the future, and knowing the problems related to the BB90 standard, I followed and installed the bearings with the tophats/delrins bought from Hambini using the Loctite activator and retaining compound. No problems, no creaks and the bearings are still in very good condition after 4500km. Sure, it may be a bit expensive but you also buy the knowledge and expertise of Hambini, something we all can be very thankful of. I would not like to waste time, money, efforts on temporary solutions or trips to a LBS. Finally, I’m pretty sure he backs up his engineering and he would be there for us by any eventual problems with his support or solutions…

I was not sure this would actually work and thought I would give it a go before binning the frame. I followed the instructions religiously and BOOM no more creak. You can buy the spacers a lot cheaper than Hambini sells them for but his are machined. Whether this makes a difference or not, I don’t know but £106 for a set of bearings and plastic spacers is a lot of money.

  7. Burke T

I used SKF bearings and the recommended chemcials. It worked and ridded me of creak that I had been riding through for months. Not cheap

I have been running Enduro ceramic bearings for the past 5 years (2 sets). Whether it was the placebo effect or what, they felt good until the day they start making noise. Pull them out and that crunchy feeling is what I got. I was told Hambini by a friend. I watched video’s and learned much. Since they offered BB bearings I was anxious to give them a try. I purchased a set on a Sunday and the order was fill that day, shipped the next day. Now that’s service!! I in the states so it took a few days to arrive. They installed easily. 2 rides and 120 miles later I love these things. No creaks and feel buttery smooth. I recommend these to all BB90 owners. You will not be disappointed.

  10. Robert Conlan

Easy to install and the BB now spins better than before with Enduro bearings installed.

  11. Richard Sommers

  12. Brendan pegrum

I followed the instructions carefully and fitted the bearings. It has transformed the bike. No noise and the cranks soon so fluidly

  13. Tim A.

I was soo impressed with a Hambini BB86 Racing Edition BB and could avoid wanting the experience in my Trek BB90 bottom bracket. Hand no creaks or noice before and sure not after. But it runs as smooth as and old school 4-square BB. Definitive recommendation!

  14. David

    Excellent communication and professionalism.

  15. Scott

Installed the BB90 kit and couldn’t be happier. Crank now rotates unbelievably smooth, with a very solid feeling and no more creaking! I couldn’t be happier. Three thumbs up. ?

  16. Tony Carmichael

Hambini was extremely helpful in making sure I got the right product for my bike.

  17. Mark Acker

I’m very pleased with the quality of the bearings and quality of the installation instructions. No more squeaky BB! Thank you for doing what you do – with style!

  18. John Saltysiak

You shipped it immediately. I don’t have shite. It’s stuck in the USPS system. All I get from USPS is “ on its way to next destination “. BFD! That message has been since June 10. I’m so very disappointed in USPS. Can’t get any satisfaction as to when or where my purchase is. It’s not Hambini’s fault. That’s a lot of US $ just sitting somewhere other than in the hands of it’s own. My SwissSide wheels got to me in 3 (three) days from Poland. UPS INTERNATIONAL DID GREAT. John

  20. Ben W.

Brilliant service. Pre sales was excellent and product was excellent. Installation instructions were spot on too.

  21. David C.

Very happy so far. The bb90 creak seems to have gone so fingers crossed that’s its a permanent solution. The bearings are also incredibly smooth. Very nice

  22. Stephen

The bearings I purchased from Hambini for my Trek Emonda SLR are obviously very high quality and shipped to the US extremely quickly. I’m a very satisfied customer!

  23. Tim Sandy

I wanted the ‘sort after‘ BB90 bearing kit, which seems to sell out as soon as it’s back in stock. The email notification works well and I eventually snapped one up.
Despatched immediately and arrived very quickly, so it’s all good.

  24. chris jacques

I changed bearings last year due to creaking. did not fix the creaking. Ordered bearings from Hambini, installed them exactly by his instructions, followed them to the letter, and success. so far no creaking. I only have 2 rides on them now. Happy days.

  25. David G.

I bought the Hambini BB90 kit to replace the worn out originals on my c2015 Trek Madone 4.9. I made two attempts to buy on the Hambini website but missed out as the items went out of stock very quickly. An email to Hambini on Monday morning was answered within 10 minutes by the man himself offering to source the parts straight away. This included selecting the bearings and turning up a pair of Delrin bushes to interface with my Ultegra crankset. The kit arrived on Wednesday morning. Comprehensive fitting instructions may be found on the Hambini website. Following these to the letter resulted in a super- smooth and silent BB assembly which is a joy to ride and has quite transformed my bike. My riding experience has been almost exclusively on steel framed bikes; i’d certainly compare the spin quality of the Hambini BB90 set with that of Phil Wood or Royce BSA units.
A number of correspondents on relevant forums have commented on the cost of this kit. Hambini has produced a video on bearing selection which gives an idea of the processes he employs and consequently, the costs involved. Then there is the cost of the Delrin bushes, turned up in small batches or, in my case, to order. This all takes skill, knowledge, time and experience. I think therefore, the kit alone represents great value for money. However, when Hambini’s personal customer support Is factored in the value looks truly exceptional.

  26. Matthew K.

Very good, will definitely buy equivalent for other bikes when necessary.

  27. Andrew Hyman

Great service and communication from Hambini. I had some questions about compatibility which he responded to quickly, alleviating my concerns. Excellent product, quite dear, but you get what you pay for.

  28. Richard Bryan

The part which I removed from my 2019 Trek Checkpoint SL5 is marked “NSK 6805D Japan,” so I think it’s the same part which I purchased here. I was surprised at the amount of crud inside the bottom bracket shell, and the bearings were gritty and rusting. Less than 6,000 miles the bike.

  29. Matt Clarke

Put these into a new 2019 frame emonda sl7. Bike was 6 weeks on the road bb creak after 1000km, changed at 1500km Instant fix. Easy to fit all my knowledge from youtube. Riding in lakedistrict still sweet.

  30. David Gaertner

Hambini machined top hats to fit NTN bearings for me on my 2018 Trek Madone BB90. He did not have to hand-select bearings at the large end of the tolerance for me since my crank was not making noise yet. I had an older Madone that made horrible crank bearing noise which is why I replaced it with a new frame. The drive side bearing of my newer 2018 frame came-out with very little pressure which meant it was good for me to replace them now before the carbon fiber frame wore-out causing them to spin. Installing the new bearings with activator and retaining compound is a good preventative measure to keep the bearings from spinning causing you to have to buy oversized bearings. Don’t wait till they start to creak! In the past, bike shops have installed these by greasing them without retaining compound and that’s how the old frame wore-out. Hambini was very engaged to help me make the best choice. He even called me in the US from the UK on his own time on his own cost on a weekend. I also purchased NTN Zipp wheel bearings from him and I’m in the process of rebuilding the hubs now. As with me, I’m sure he won’t let you down when you need help!!!

Great video and talks and says it how it is. I go through bb90 trek bottom bracket as if they were going out out fashion. And has I used my bikes to fund raise for charities h4h and British Legion in memory of my eldest son and of course being built slightly larger than the so called average person at 105kg ,I have just purchased the token ninja bb with what I have read to take all the creaks away. We will see. Great to watch your videos on YouTube. Keep it up and speak your mind if you can back it up. Chapeau youngman

Great service and quick reply to a question I had. Highly recommended.

  33. Chris H.

I guess I am one of the 9%! No complaints about the interaction or quality. Just disappointed in a still creaking BB. I will say they spin great in the stand and I was optimistic but still noisy.

  34. Khalid AL muhairi

Unassuming package delivered promptly. The visual difference to the OE bearings is unremarkable but you will notice it when you put them in. My vernier registered the same size on both the old and the new bearings but there is a clear difference when you push in with resistance felt so don’t go by the vernier. I put them in with the recommended activator and retaining compound, waited a few days and then took it out for a ride. The silence is golden. I have done a further 2500km on the bike since and it has been faultless. A few people have said this is expensive, it’s a bargain, I must have wasted so many days at the LBS and with Trek’s warranty department, I had pretty much given up hope until I got this. I cannot fault Hambini, his engineering and technical knowledge make others look like amateurs… Not bad for a five year old!

  36. Steven C.

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. My original bearings were quite loose but I still hoped these would work. The web site does say they might not work if the original bearings were loose so I guess this was an expensive mistake for me.

  37. Kbopu

Easy to install and works well. No more noise. I wish I had found this sooner.

  38. Khalid AL muhairi

Arrived promptly. I’d never installed a press fit bottom bracket before so I took my time. My old BB didn’t creak (after a shop used retaining compound for me when I had it serviced – it did at first). Followed the instructions with this product and it’s silent. Looking to buy another for a different bike which has had repeated fails – I don’t think the shop knew what they were doing, and now I feel confident to try it on a more problematic setup.

  40. Stephen P

I didn’t think this would work but rather than scrapping my frame, I thought I would give it a try. I followed the instructions down to the letter and it has rid my bike of creak. $4k saved. My appreciation of engineering tolerances was limited before, I thank Hambini for educating me in this black art.

  41. Car Davis

Great product which I hope will cure a customer’s clicking/creaking BB. This BB came with a clear rationale for why it should work and equally clear instructions on how to fit it. I had a question on whether to use the original dust shields. Hambini came back very quickly with an answer (they are not necessary and probably won’t fit; I tried and it’s true!). Overall I am very happy with the product and service received.

  42. Reinhard E.

Put it in the shelf for the time being. If the bearings are of a similiar level of quality like the BB86 crankset i bought, they will do a great job. My Trek Emonda is still fine but it is always good to be prepared for the inevitable. Shipping, customs processing were fast and trouble free. Thanks Hambini!

  43. Joseph Petrosso

Thx for getting these BB’s out can’t wait to try these !

  44. frank.luetzenkirchen

I have watched your videos and was convinced to upgrade my bottom braket bearings at my Domane.
Easy to mount with your tool, perfect fit and the crank arms spin with (nearly) no resistence.

  47. David H.

My 2019 Trek Domane SL 5 was driving me crazy with the factory BB90 constantly creaking. It has been 6 months since I installed the Hambini kit and not a single creak is to be heard, very satisfied with the positive out come. THANK YOU Hambini.

  48. Trent M

5 bike shops later and still no fix. I tried this as a last resort in hope more than anything else. I followed the instructions to the letter. I emailed Hambini for some guidance and he responded within a few hours on a Sunday! WTF.

I can’t fault it. There is clearly a difference at a very subtle level. No creak and I enjoy my ride rather than trying to alter my pedalling to stop it creaking.

The overall experience of watching the videos, to emailing the man himself was first class. When I get a new bike, I’m having another Hambini BB

  49. Gary L.

Thanks for the right bearings, well made delron spacres and all of the correct fitting informaation. Shame I can’t find a mechanic that will use the right fitting products. Love your work.

  50. Michael Atkison

    No more creaking. Thank you!

  51. KEITH EVANS

Brilliantly made and even have great banter in emails 100% Brilliant

  52. Alma T

This is the only kit I have tried that works. I’ve been through the Token, Ceramicspeed, Kogel etc etc. They are garbage. Hambini’s methodology in this kit is very clear, he selects the biggest bearings from a wide selection. A time consuming process no doubt and with that comes a cost. Yes it is expensive but it works and is far cheaper than getting a new bike

  53. Mark E.

Hambini kit NTN bearings measured exactly the same as original Trek NSK bearings. No creaking after fitting.
BTW had no creaking or issues with original bearings but decided it was time to replace after 25K miles (2017 Domane). Wish I’d inspected original NSK bearings before ordering as it turns out they were near perfect even at that mileage…!

Q & A

Can you provide a link to a spacer needed for use with GXP cranks? I've googled 'delrin 25 to 22mm drop down bearing spacer' but am not finding anything useful. Nadeem asked on May 10, 2024

This is a made to order part, you would need to email me.

Grease between the derlin hats and bearing face (before pushing derlin top hats into bearings?) Thomas asked on March 6, 2024

I would leave them clean but lots of people use grease.

admin answered on March 6, 2024 store manager

Thanks- I’ll go clean 👌
No disadvantages to not using grease as a water ingress prevention measure?

If we use these top of the range bearings, would it be a problem later to use normal bearings (most likely smaller) or when we go big one time, we have to go big everytime to avoid problems (go big or go home) ? bj asked on June 23, 2023

The replacements would probably be too slack and you'd have to go back to having problems.

Is it possible to use this kit with at SRAM GXP crankset if I use an additional reducer (24 to 22) for the non drive side. Or is there a delrin spacer I can buy, like Hambini talks about in the video, that matches the 25 mm ID of the bearing to a 22 mm ID of the SRAM crankset? Karl asked on June 23, 2022

You can use a drop down spacer but it doesn't come with this kit.

Does this kit also work with BB95? Richard Fairholme asked on November 28, 2021

It should do, the only difference is BB95 is a MTB spec, these bearings are really for road racing so you will not get the life.
