Precision Engineered and Manufactured in the United Kingdom

Hambini Bottom Brackets are amongst the lowest friction bottom brackets in the world. They are used by recreational cyclists, road racers, triathletes and time trialists from around the globe. They are of proven design and are manufactured in the United Kingdom. These units are of a one piece construction which makes them inherently resistant to creak, they will maintain perfect bearing alignment and function under loads in excess of 4000W.

Hambini Bottom Bracket Reviewed by an Engineer

Hassle-Free Maintenance

All Hambini bottom brackets can be installed and removed with a conventional bearing press, they use a controlled method of installation using the recommended fitting adaptors, they require no hammers or specialized tooling for removal. Additionally, the wearing component – the bearings – can be serviced in situ or removed within just a few minutes. The bottom bracket has been designed to be fully rebuildable.

Unrivalled Performance

Unloaded bearing spin tests are a poor measure of frictional performance but they do highlight good bearing alignment. The link below is to a video of a Hambini Racing Bottom Bracket that had completed 10,000km

Class Leading Parasitic Drag Loss (Friction)

The graph below shows how Hambini bottom brackets perform in comparison to the bottom brackets of other manufacturers. The test conditions model real world cycling and more importantly mimics realistic frame tolerances. All of these tests have been conducted with an eccentricity of 0.1mm which is generally the maximum permitted in frame specifications – the reality is tolerances have been known to be much worse than this. Misalignment is more critical to friction than the type of bearing ball material, a slight misalignment can easily outweigh the difference between a top of the range NTN bearing and a mediocre ebay no name bearing. The results show that bottom brackets which have an element of structural linkage between the drive and non-drive sides (one piece/threaded etc) perform much better than those which are multi piece.

The high torque and low RPM of pedaling causes high Hertzian contact stresses on bearing surfaces which cause friction levels to change over time. Those bottom brackets which have used ceramic bearings, start off with fairly low levels of friction but over time their friction increases dramatically. The super hard ceramic balls grind a track into the comparatively soft bearing races causing friction to increase. This would be analogous to trying to drive a locomotive train on a road, the wheels would cut grooves into the road surface due to the huge difference in surface hardness.

Bottom Bracket Stiffness

A Hambini BB is a one piece bottom bracket. It actively contributes to the stiffness of the bike’s pedaling platform. Threaded and multi piece bottom brackets have an element of play in their design so they do not contribute anywhere near a comparative level of stiffness. Reviewers of Hambini BB’s often comment on their feeling of improved stiffness, this is due to them being one piece and undergoing a proprietary heat treatment process. This makes them stronger and stiffer. This is a difference the end user cannot see – but they can feel.

  1. Simon B

This is installed in my canyon Aeroad. It is much better than the stock Shimano unit. It spins so freely and when on the gas it’s very stiff. First class customer support from Hambini, all queries before and after receiving were handled promptly and the answers were thorough.

  2. M Bellaert

Thankyou hambini for this bottom bracket. All of my creak is a thing of th epast. I ride in silence now. Fantastic.

  3. Matt Brady

For spending this much on a bottom bracket I would expect something better than a brown generic cardboard box. This is my only real gripe. The bottom bracket is well machined and very smooth.

  4. KT Smith

I bought this after reading a few reviews on here and from people on weight weenies. No regrets whatsoever. Good upgrade, I would have bought the racing if it wasn’t so expensive.

  5. S Owens

A bit expensive but you won’t regret it. Transforms the bike, no slop, super smooth and feels like someone has given you an extra 20W. The guy is a genius.

  6. Christopher Ayres

I don’t normally write reviews but I felt compelled to write this one. I bought this bottom bracket after watching ‘hambini’ videos on Youtube. The overriding impression I got was the guy knew his stuff and reading the reviews on here gave me the confidence to pull the trigger on what is a comparatively expensive bottom bracket. However, the difference between this and the SHimano stock BB should not be sniffed at. It’s a bit heavier but it is so much stiffer and the pedals spin for ever despite the use of steel bearings. Pedalling is very smooth now and full gas at 800W shows no flex in the BB area. This is a very well designed and executed product. A lot of thought has gone into this that is not immediately obvious. The ability to remove, replace and service without a lump hammer is a god send. Customer service and any questions before and post purchase were handled efficiently. The depth of the answers given made the LBS look like school children, it’s a completely different league. I’d have no hesitation to purchase another one.

  7. Peewee

This is a good upgrade over the stock Shimano bottom bracket. Spins well and is fully serviceable. A lot of detail has gone into the design of this thing. I cannot fault it. Get one.

  8. Mario Sanchez

My local bike shop fitted this after I had gone through many hours of creaking with wheels mfg, token and ceramicspeed. The bike was ready for the dumpster. Now it feels like a new machine. Makes no noise and really stiff. Perfect.

  9. Kolse8

Don’t waste your time with anything else. Get one of these. This is much better than the Stock Shimano bottom bracket and the alternatives from Token etc. It was a toss up between this and BBinfinite for me. After exchanging a few emails with both parties. I plumped for this one. The overwhelming transparency, lack of pressure and patience to deal with all of my stupid questions had me sold. Hambini doesn’t do BS and his packaging is functional to put it bluntly. No fancy graphics and just a plain box. The engineering on the other hand is something else. This fitted really well and spun forever. It has not creaked at all and it feels so stiff especially up hill. Fantasic.

  10. Jeremy Curtis

Excellent bottom bracket. Very elegant and simple design, a lot of thought has gone into this and it’s a joy to ride on.

  11. Jono in Sydney

Very pleased I swapped out my Ultegra BB for the Hambini Classic. The process was simple and fast – arrived in Australia in about ten days. The bike shop fitted it (they were intrigued having never seen one) and the result is great. Smooth pedaling and soooooo quiet. Very pleased.

  12. Hazbeen

Major improvement over the stock Shimano one I had. This one doesn’t creak and you can feel the increase in stiffness. Bottom bracket is like a work of art. lack of instructions and packaging is plain brown box.

  13. James Bright

I will be the first to admit I was a skeptic about this business of fits and tolerances that Hambini has numerous videos on. Now I’ve tried this bottom bracket, I have changed my mind. Fitting is no louder than fitting the two piece type bottom brackets but the old spin test shows the difference. The difference is remarkable. It is rare to experience customer service at a level like this. I am very pleased I would strongly recommend this bottom bracket if you have any creaking or you want to convert to Shimano. I used to dread going up hill waiting for creak. With this, it’s all gone. I would also recommend you e-mail Hambini first, he will give you good sound advice and he is quick.

  14. vatoencabronado

I decided to buy this BB, but noticed that there weren’t any in stock. I emailed Hambini. Turned out he was on holiday, but had already made new stock of the product. He responded immediately to my request, updated the website, answered technical questions, all while out of town purportedly relaxing! I purchased this bottom bracket and actually had a fair amount of problems installing it due to the extreme tightness of clearances in my frame. After install, the bearings were notchy and didn’t spin freely. I was worried that the extreme tight fit had distorted the bottom bracket and it was impinging on the bearings. I reached out to Hambini, and got same day feedback (on a weekend) that due to the fit, the bearings had most likely dented the race, and that all I had to do was replace them. It was conceivable that the fit might slightly distort the BB, but that the BB + Bearings would absolutely bring it back into tolerance. It was reassuring to 1. Have immediate feedback from someone with a serious depth of knowledge of the material properties. 2. Get a solution that worked. I looked all over for the same quality of bearings that are included in the bottom bracket for replacement, but frankly couldn’t find them at anywhere near the availability or price I got them from Hambini. He also threw in a couple of extra Delrin bushings as I had neglected to remove it from the drive side when I was installing, and distorted it. Immediate troubleshooting, immediate solution, good pricing, and an excellent final product that is extremely stiff, and will have my new high quality, low drag bearings lasting much longer … what more could you ask for? I’m quite pleased! Thanks, Hambini!

  15. B38

Being a big bloke I was a bit dubious as to whether this stiffness business was tosh. I got the LBS to fit my Hambini BB and I have not looked back. I used to dread going up hill as it sounded like a broken record – not any more. Smooth pedalling and so quiet. Made in England for another gold star! Cheers

  16. Brandon Lilley

WOW, what a f**king difference this is. All of the creaking has gone. No slip. Direct drive. I shoot up the climbs now. F**king brilliant. [Some of this review has been censored… Thanks Hambini]

  17. Valentin

This is a great upgrade to the normal stock BBs. So much so that I went the extra step and grinded the internal lips of the frame, because my Giant was unfortunately exactly like the one in the picture (https://www.hambini.com/technical-support/hambini-bottom-bracket-application-guide.html). I actually regret this, because aside from the lip, I also had to grind the bottom cable cage, which also stood in the way of the BB, and that created serious problems when inserting the BB (the frame doesn’t have the same resistance, and the force needed to insert the BB deformed it). But the ball bearings were so smooth that I really really wanted to use this product. Well. Bottom line: first check if your bike really respects the prerequisites for installing this one piece BB, and if it does, then go for it. If not, well, I wouldn’t do this again, now my bike is at a carbon repair guy for the winter.

  18. Rupesh

Received the product very soon after placing the order. A very well engineered piece of kit, particularly when compared to the 3 piece push fit BB it replaced. All working well so far and don’t anticipate any issues.

  19. Brian Young

This is bottom bracket is extremely well thought out. Not only does it increase the stiffness in the BB area which is definitely noticeable, it makes maintanence a piece of cake. You can change the bearings out in 5 minutes with no cursing or wondering if you are going to break the bike frame. I don’t know why it takes an Engineer from outside the industry to teach the industry how to do things. My BB has been in for 3500 creak free, spin freely miles! Wonderful BB

  20. Fast Stu

Great product and great customer service. I was going to put value at 4 stars because it is a pricey piece but every questions and concern emailed was answered quickly and clearly. To me that’s worth more then one star. Buy here with confidence.

  21. SJDBlack

BB installed by trusted bike shop and now covered 100 icy frosty kilometres. Oh the sound of silence! Im no longer afraid or embarrassed to get out of the saddle on climbs. That alone justifies the cost. When you also add the tangible extra stiffness and noticeably less rotational friction (compared by my old Hope) this component becomes something of a bargain. Thank you for making my rides quiet and enjoyable again.

  22. jamie wooton

The box was understated, the bottom bracket was not. Riding on it is like riding a new bike. No flex and super smooth. This bottom bracket was recommended to me by some club members and my local bike shop. Not a name I had heard of but the product is of the highest order.

  23. Simon

The installation was quite hard: the frame made noises that were pretty scaring. However, it does not sound different in the installation video. That’s why I continued and did not regret it. No more noises and crank rotates really smooth!

  24. STP 500

Great bottom bracket. No Creak. I installed it as per Hambini’s advice, he suggested removing the wave washer and shimming it to manually adjust the preload. It spins much more freely now and he said I would get better bearing life. Customer service and knowledge are on another planet. A plus.

  25. Jason Blind

Works very well, no creak, very stiff. Fitted with ease. First class

  26. Ariel, Ponca City, OK

Magnificent looking. Like butter to spin. No Creak. Solved all of my problems in one go. Perfect.

  27. Matt T

I went through 3 or 4 bottom brackets before fidining this. Works perfectly.

  28. Mario Carlotti

If I could give this 10 stars, then I would. A work of art. Hambini’s service is genuinely second to none. I have never had anyone care so much to make sure my bottom bracket worked in my bike frame. I can’t thank him enough.

  29. Pawel

This is amazing product, worth every penny. I received BB this afternoon, it took me 10 minutes to install it with included press-fit attachments. I did spin test before (standard shimano BB) and after (Hambini BB86) you can view results here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzQ8zw9sdVg I mean WTF, how is that even possible. It spins forever and is so smooth. I can’t wait to test it outside on my local climbs. Thanks Hambini. P.S The box, well its in the bin now, so stop complaining about being basic, it does the job it has been design to do. The only negative is it took me nearly 3 months to hunt this bottom bracket down as they are flying of the shelf like a hot buns. Hambini you must quit your day job and make more of these 🙂

  30. Mark Carandang

Hambini is a complete genius. This bottom bracket is the dogs!

The bike is a now a beast, no flex and no noise. This should be a factory fit.

My only gripe was how long it took to get one. I signed up to the stock alerts and by the time I had gotten there, they had sold out again. In the end I emailed Hambini, he put one aside for me and I was sorted within just a few days. I wish I’d done it sooner.

  35. Vermonte V.

The package arrived on time and the quality of the bottom bracket is Excellent! Thanks Hambini!

  36. Mark Turner

After buying this I will never fit anything else

  37. Neil B.

Great bit of kit. Arrived quickly. Fitted a treat. Smooth ? Thanks Hanbini

  38. tom hill

Fitted to my 2019 Giant Propel without any problems. Lovely piece of engineering. Fit is excellent and super smooth.

  39. Mr R.

Simple and straightforward to fit, exceptionally well made and as smooth as butter. Feels fantastic when riding. Cannot recommend more.

  40. Brett

So far so good, BB86 showed out of stock but after a email the product was updated on the site and I placed an order. Shipping was very quick and efficient and product received looks and feels as quality as described. Measurements appear correct, although I’m still waiting on frame parts to complete the build so I won’t be able to comment on the performance but bearings seem smooth so I don’t anticipate any issues with the BB except potential frame fitment issues.

  41. Gary

Excellent service, excellent product. For a 5 year old he doesn’t do a bad job.

  42. Hugh Healy

I’ve chewed through BB’s from Shimano, FSA, etc. on multiple frames. I’ve just installed your BB86 Shimano Race edition (black) to a black Aeroad.

Installing was a pleasure. Beautiful tight fit. Amazing finish on your BB. Immediately perfect spin test. Transformed my ride from creaking sponge to stiff, responsive, and gloriously silent.

Thank you! I want one for all my bikes!

  43. Richard

Fitted without any problems and is super smooth in use. All you need to do now is find a similarly good fix for the bb86 to 30mm axle issue!

  44. Michael H.

Replaced a creaking OEM BB with Hambini’s BB86 Shimano Classic. Just tipped over 1000km and I can say with certainty that it is by far the best BB I have had in over two decades of riding & racing. Silky smooth, very positive, extremely well engineered.

  45. Anonymous

    Excellent, solved the creaking problem.

  46. christian

    Excellent product and service

  47. Michael Wittmann

Installation was ok without any issues. Had to move a hydraudlic Break hose out of the way. Runns now above the bb instead of under. Theres Not too much space under the bb left for the shifting cable guide. Gets maybe a little bit of a fiddly f**karround when i have to service them. Probably theres a disassembly necessary. I used no loctite therefore. Bike is creak free and stiff. Frame is a Canyon Endurace CFSLX Disc with mechanical Dura ACE. Had creaking not from day one but after i serviced the BB for the first time ist was present most of the time.

  48. Anonymous

    Brilliant component!

  49. Jan Jannsen

Perfect fit, light, nearly no resistance 🙂

  50. Michael

Assembly was Ok. Had to move the hydraulic break hose to run now above the BB which was no Problem. The creak was gone first. Now its back, sometimes. Right Foot down Location. The Left side bearing feels a little bit rough and sticky. The Spin Test is better than with the Stock Shimano BB however not as good as it could. My frame is a 2018 Canyon cfslx Endurace. I will try to use the loctite now which i didnt apply for the first Installation to get rid of the creak. Im sure the remaining problems are caused by my Frame which has probably some dimensional imperfections worth a roasting…

  51. Lee Barrett

Fantastic bit of kit, spins like a dream and creeks like any other press fit, under load, going up hills.

  52. Eric

Feels like superb quality. I’m waiting for the stock delrin BB86 to start creaking before installation. I’m wondering if installation in a aluminum frame or carbon frame with aluminum sleeve (Argon 18) will have any issues different from an all-carbon frame installation.

  53. Anonymous

  54. Oliver

Didn’t checked for clearance in my frame in the middle of the bearings. So it won’t fit my actual bike. Congratulations to myself for this smart move: the bb will be the first part of my new bike, I’m going to build the end of this year.
The quality of this bb seems to be perfect. All the measurments are true to size and the surface is on point. The bearings are moving freely, I can’t feel any rattling.
I’m really looking forward to build up a bike with this bb.

  55. Jonathan Arnel

From a non engineer’s eye the product looks great. Came completely ready to be installed. Now I just need to make the time to get it done. Arrived, by post, quicker than expected too.

  56. seanks111

Bought it quite a while before getting the nerve to fit it myself. Bought activator and loctite, plus a bearing press and extractor from AliExpress ?. Bike did start creaking after I bought the Hambini BB for my TCR Advanced.
So, took me longer to get the old BB out (bearings were shot). Extractor would not grip the bearing! Tried lots of things, even got a crow-bar stuck inside the extractor! Eventually, pushed an old MTB handlebar into the extractor, to force it to open further, which worked?
Installation, not too bad. Had to drop the internal cable guide out of the way and lift hydraulic line out of the way. Applied activator, waited 5min or so. Pushed the BB in though drive side opening. When through and loose, removed press and then manipulated the cable guide and hydraulic hose out of the way. Reinstalled press and all went smoothly.
Reinstalled everything and felt so much stiffer. Issue though, was that creak still there. Roll-on “TheDarkInstall”, Dura Ace creak fix. https://youtu.be/HTg4nHW-B-A

This sorted the creak and overall the bike feels noticeably stiffer than before, faster..?.
Made up with your BB Sachin ?. Top bit of kit.

  57. Jason Dombrowski

    Easy Install and amazing quality

  58. tlaursen001

Bought the BB in summer 2021. About half a year has passed since then. A little time was needed to do some proper testing and getting the BB to work as intended.

The mounting of the BB was a dream. I had tried 2 BBs from other manufacturers before, and I just never managed to get them to fit as intended. The Hambini BB was a totally different story. Only took a couple of minutes – job done. Mounting is though only half the story.

At first the crank didn’t turn as free as I would expect. With no load, I never got the crank to do more than half a turn. I came to the conclusion, that it needs some time for the bearings to run freely. And yes – it got better. A lot better. But after half a year it is still not quite as expected. Every half a turn there is an ever so slight rub. I’ve taken it apart more often than I like to think – but I cannot find the cause. I assume the Bearings are the problem – not the construction itself. It may be a bit of nitpicking, but the product is sold as a perfect solution – and I don’t think it’s quite there – but honestly; very close.

The BB is mounted in a Yoeleo R6 Frame

  59. Hank Ammentorp

Perfect fit, perfect service and no nonsense

  60. Jeroen

Good customer service. Easy to install and the experiences sofa are ok.

  61. Peter

A big step up from the Shimano plastic version.

  62. Patrick Byrnes

This is the second Hambini BB I have ordered. Delivery was prompt, and the installation was easy. Had no problems with the part so far, and if it lasts as long as the other BB (T47), I won’t have to worry about it for a long time. Quality item!

  63. Steve D.

Exceptional fit and finish. Its expensive but it looks and feels expensive. I very happy with it.

  64. John

Fitted easily to my winspace t1550 frame. Not used the bike yet, but everything looks good. Used the hambini videos. Very fast delivery and service. All good.

  65. Rob D.

    Thanks Hambini,
New BB86 Bottom Bracket was delivered promptly, beautifully engineered, fitted exactly as it should with no problems (on a Canyon Ultimate CF), works like a dream.

  66. Girard Anthony

  67. Mark Mezzapelli

Everything with Hambini is super smooth. From the purchase process, to shipping, to post purchase communication. Most importantly, the BB is super smooth! As mentioned in the FAQ, the first few kms are notchy, but you can feel them work out after you put a few 100kms in. Great product, and can’t wait to enjoy it for years to come.

How close to 41.00 does the BB shell on the frame need to be? I just received my SLC2 and it looks like the drive side is 40.99 and non drive 40.95. Would I have to do any honing? Robert asked on October 17, 2023

40.95 to 41.00 is the design tolerance. You shouldn't have more than 0.02mm deviation ie 40.95 to 40.97 is okay 40.95 to 41.00 is not. The second part is the ovality.
